Italy pension requirements to increase in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, Italian pension requirements will increase due to life expectancy adjustments. The old-age pension age will rise to 67 years and one month, while ordinary early retirement will require 42 years and 11 months of contributions for men and 41 years and 11 months for women. An additional two-month increase is expected in 2028.

Political parties are currently debating adjustments as part of the 2027 budget planning. The Lega party has proposed neutralizing the 2027 increase and introducing a voluntary exit option at age 64, which would involve a purely contributory recalculation of the pension amount. The governing majority is looking into increasing flexibility, while opposition parties, including the PD and M5S, are calling for a halt to automatic increases and more protections for strenuous work and discontinuous careers.
