Italy police and prison respond to separate suicide attempts

A female inmate in Italy died by suicide while incarcerated, prompting commentary on gaps in prison mental‑health care, dignity protection and institutional responsibility.

In Turin, police were dispatched after a 112 call reported that a woman had sent a message saying she intended to end her life. Officers forced entry into her apartment, found her and handed her over to emergency medical personnel; both officers incurred minor injuries during the intervention.
