Taranto to host 2026 Mediterranean Games
The 20th Mediterranean Games will be held in Taranto, Italy, from August 21 to September 3, 2026, bringing together approximately 4,000 to 5,000 athletes from 26 nations. The event features a wide range of disciplines, including the official debut of padel and fin swimming.
To accommodate the large number of participants, organizers have arranged for two luxury cruise ships, the Aroya and the Romantica, to serve as a floating athletes' village.
National delegations are preparing for various competitions: Spain is sending a strong contingent in wrestling and padel; Italy aims to defend its football legacy; and Tunisia is sending one of its largest delegations ever, with 179 to 308 participants depending on the specific sport counts. Greece and Monaco are also sending significant teams. Additionally, the Athletica Vaticana will participate with four athletes in padel, fencing, and cycling, representing the Holy See in a mission of peace and fraternity.
