Italian suspects in bomb attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci face trial

Prosecutors in Rome have scheduled a hearing for July 20 2026 before the Tribunal of Review to consider requests for revocation or reduction of precautionary measures against four Irpinian suspects accused of carrying out the bomb attack on Rai journalist Sigfrido Ranucci on 16 October 2025. The detainees – Antonio Falconieri, Generoso Pagliarulo, Pellegrino D’Avino (held in Rebibbia) and his partner Marika De Filippis, who exercised the right not to answer – will be represented by their lawyers.

A separate investigative report notes that Saverio Mutone, one of the alleged perpetrators, was recorded in a police interview saying, “Mal che vada me li vado a fare questi 30 anni,” indicating his awareness of a potential long prison term. The Carabinieri briefing highlighted his searches on Google for terms such as “Ranucci bomba” and “Ranucci indagine,” underscoring his consciousness of the crime’s gravity.

Journalist Davide Netti, identified as a “sodale” of the suspects, has offered to cooperate with magistrates, claiming to possess information on the operational code‑names and motives behind the attack. The investigation also points to a broader criminal network, including figures linked to drug trafficking and alleged financial support for the operation, with promises of legal assistance and daily allowances for fleeing abroad.
