Italy launches summer road safety campaigns and driving guidelines
Italian authorities and local municipalities are launching initiatives to ensure road safety during the summer travel season. The national campaign ‘Vacanze coi Fiocchi’, coordinated by Centro Antartide, focuses this year on ‘Eco-Driving’. This approach promotes sustainable mobility by encouraging driving styles that reduce fuel consumption by 5 to 20 percent and lower pollutant emissions, while simultaneously increasing driver concentration and safety.
In support of safe summer travel, the Polizia Stradale has issued a safety guide for motorists. Key recommendations include performing thorough vehicle checks—such as verifying tire pressure, tread depth, and the functionality of lights and windshield wipers—and ensuring luggage is distributed to maintain vehicle stability. Drivers are also advised to avoid alcohol and heavy meals before trips, use proper child safety seats, and ensure pets are secured so they do not distract the driver.
