Italy public debt reaches record 3,207.2 billion euros
Italy's public debt reached a new record high of 3,207.2 billion euros in June, according to statistics released by the Bank of Italy. This represents an increase of 26.2 billion euros compared to the previous month.
The rise is attributed to several factors: the financing needs of public administrations (13.3 billion euros), an increase in Treasury liquid assets (9.8 billion euros), and the effects of exchange rate variations, inflation-indexed bond revaluations, and issuance/redemption premiums (3.1 billion euros).
By subsector, the increase was driven by central administrations, which rose by 26.9 billion euros, partially offset by a 0.7 billion euro decrease in local administration debt. The average remaining life of the debt remained stable at 7.9 years. Additionally, the share of debt held by the Bank of Italy decreased to 16.7 percent.
