Italy public transport security: protests and increased patrols

Labor unions in Florence have organized a protest at the Prefecture to demand increased security for public transport workers following a serious assault on an Autolinee Toscane driver. Unions including Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, and Ugl Autoferrotranvieri are calling for the full application of safety protocols, specialized conflict management training for staff, and an increase in law enforcement presence on buses. They also emphasized the need to revise travel times and schedules to reduce service disruptions that often trigger conflicts.

In Ancona, local authorities and the transport company Conerobus are taking measures to enhance urban transit safety. Following a meeting of the Committee for Public Order and Security, Conerobus committed to intensifying inspections with the help of private collaborators. The municipality of Ancona plans to bolster video surveillance and lighting in public squares to improve the perception of safety, while local police will increase presence at critical bus terminals to prevent further incidents of delinquency and incivility.
