Italy pushes coastal tourism reforms and year‑round growth with new port standards and island press tour

In Vibo Valentia, the fourth stage of the Blue Marina Awards 2026 gathered industry leaders to call for updated performance indicators and a revision of the 1997 decree governing recreational boating concessions. Representatives of ASSONAT‑Confcommercio and regional president Roberto Occhiuto stressed the need for simpler administration, sustainability measures and digitalisation to attract private investment and support micro‑enterprises in Calabria’s blue economy.

Meanwhile, on the Aeolian Islands, Brand Eolie launched its second press tour to promote destagionalisation of the archipelago’s tourism. Event manager Daniele Corrieri highlighted participation from more than 120 local companies, employing around 1,500 seasonal workers, with the goal of extending jobs to ten months a year. The campaign also showcased the islands’ archaeological sites, museums, historic castles and niche agricultural products such as ancient grains and capers, noting that the initiative incurred no public spending and awaits institutional recognition.
