Lazio region launches elderly vaccination initiative, says Selvi

Eleonora Selvi, president of Fondazione Longevitas, addressed a gathering in Rome as part of the Lazio regional health programme ‘Un Consiglio in Salute’. The event, organised with the Lazio Regional Council, ASL Roma 1 and La Banca delle visite, offered free herpes zoster vaccination, cancer screenings and vital‑sign checks for seniors.

Selvi highlighted that vaccination prevention is essential to reduce hospitalisations and long‑term complications among older people, thereby extending healthy lifespan. The initiative ‘Vaccinarsi nel Lazio’ schedules awareness days for the over‑65 population, using community centres and pharmacies as health hubs. It also promotes co‑administration of herpes zoster with flu and pneumococcal vaccines. Selvi called for broader regional adoption, especially in underserved areas, and for extending pharmacy agreements to cover the herpes zoster vaccine.
