Italy pushes industrial renewal in Savuto Valley and Piombino steel hub

In the Savuto Valley, the recent acquisition of Alfagomma by Danfoss is being framed as a catalyst for reviving the local industrial pole at Piano Lago. Local officials and commentators stress the need for a unified municipal governance structure, protection of roughly 400 jobs, and attraction of new investment following past ownership disputes.

Separately, a proposal for a new electric steel plant, Metinvest Adria, in Piombino has drawn attention from WWF and Legambiente. While the NGOs do not oppose the investment, they have filed formal observations requesting detailed assessments of atmospheric emissions, waste management, water use, and protection of the marine Posidonia meadows. They also call for transparent tracking of material flows and a renewable‑energy‑focused supply strategy to align with European decarbonisation targets.
