Italy readies security hub for 2026 Mediterranean Games and America’s Cup

The Interior Ministry, led by Matteo Piantedosi, and the Sport Ministry, headed by Andrea Abodi, held two joint meetings in Rome to coordinate security for Italy’s major upcoming sport events. One discussion focused on the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, which will host about 4,000 athletes from 26 countries across 31 venues in Puglia, while the other addressed safety for the 38th America’s Cup regatta planned for Naples and for stadiums nationwide.

The plan calls for a unified inter‑force command centre in Taranto to monitor movements, manage traffic, public transport, health services and public order. Police presence will be reinforced at sporting sites, airports, hotels and other sensitive locations, with real‑time information sharing among police, gendarmerie and civil protection to swiftly respond to any threats or incidents.
