Italy records minor quakes in Foggia and Sicily, no damage reported

On 20 July 2026, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake was recorded near Zapponeta in the province of Foggia, Apulia. The hypocenter was about 10 km deep and the tremor was felt lightly in nearby towns such as Manfredonia, Carapelle and Orta Nova. No injuries, building damage or infrastructure impact were reported, and authorities took no special measures.

The following day, 21 July 2026, a magnitude 2.9 quake occurred off the north‑eastern coast of Sicily near Messina. With a depth of roughly 11 km, it was also felt but caused no significant effects or damage. Both events are classified as micro‑earthquakes and were handled without emergency interventions.
