Italy reports outdoor accidents including fatal fall and diving death
Several separate incidents involving outdoor activities have been reported in Italy. In Montebruno, a 75-year-old man died after slipping down a steep embankment into a river while mushroom hunting with his partner. Emergency responders used a helicopter winch to recover his body.
In the waters near Ponza, authorities have seized a diving boat following the death of 22-year-old Marzio Giangiulio. Preliminary investigations by the Coast Guard suggest the young man died while practicing apnea. The Procura della Repubblica at the Tribunal of Cassino is overseeing the investigation to determine responsibility.
In a separate rescue operation, a 67-year-old hiker was found alive in dense vegetation near Lavinores. After losing his orientation and his backpack, the man was located by a joint ground and air search team. He was treated for dehydration and hip and back pain before being transported to a hospital in Belluno.
