Overview

A series of outdoor accidents and rescue operations have been reported across Italy.

In Massa Lubrense, a young man sustained serious injuries at Baia di Ieranto after colliding with another person while diving from a rock. Emergency responders, including the Alpine and Speleological Rescue service and a helicopter team from Salerno, stabilized the victim and transported him to a hospital in Naples.

Fatalities have been reported in several locations. In Montebruno, a 75-year-old man died after slipping down a steep embankment into a river while mushroom hunting with a partner; responders used a helicopter winch to recover his body. Near Ponza, 22-year-old Marzio Giangiulio died while practicing apnea. The Coast Guard and the Procura della Repubblica at the Tribunal of Cassino have seized a diving boat as part of an investigation into the circumstances.

In Palinuro, 35-year-old Lorenzo Fortunato died following a sudden medical emergency while in the water at Saline beach. Despite resuscitation efforts by lido staff and emergency medical services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating whether epilepsy contributed to the event.

Rescue operations also included a 67-year-old hiker found near Lavinores. After losing his orientation and backpack, he was located by ground and air teams and treated for dehydration and physical pain before being transported to a hospital in Belluno.
