Italy reports record 7,272 minor crime victims in 2025
A new report by the Terre des Hommes Foundation, based on data from the Italian State Police, reveals a record 7,272 minors were victims of crime in Italy in 2025. While the annual increase was approximately 1%, the long-term trend shows a 43% rise in victims compared to 2015.
Family maltreatment is the most prevalent crime, affecting 3,008 victims (41.4% of the total). This specific category has seen a 109% increase over the last decade. Other significant categories include sexual violence (1,545 victims combined) and the abandonment of minors or incapable persons (637 victims).
The data highlights a significant gender disparity: girls and women represent the majority of victims, particularly in sexual crimes, where they account for approximately 83% to 89% of cases depending on the specific type of abuse.
Regional data shows varying trends. In Abruzzo, victims increased by 22.2%, while in Piedmont, the number rose by 14%. Campania reported a 3.5% increase, with female victims making up 62.5% of the total and 84% of sexual crime victims.
