Italy reports thefts at historic sanctuary and charity centre
In Argenta, officials say the 17th‑century Celletta sanctuary was broken into during the night, with windows smashed, doors forced and valuable but mainly symbolic artefacts stolen. Among the damage were silver ornaments and parts of a 1513 fresco attributed to Garofalo. Mayor Andrea Baldini appealed for the return of the items, describing the act as a "scempio" for the faithful.
In Coccaglio, police investigations led to the arrest of two Albanian men living in Cologne for an aggravated theft at the Casa della Solidarietà. The burglars stole a generator, a blower, a pressure‑washer, a shrub cutter, a hedge‑trimmer and several drills. Thanks to video surveillance and a routine traffic stop, most of the equipment was recovered and returned to the volunteers, though some tools remain missing.
