Tyrrhenian railway line maintenance to disrupt Grosseto-Orbetello services
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) will conduct major infrastructure upgrades and maintenance on the Tyrrhenian railway line between Grosseto and Orbetello during the weekends of September 5-6 and 12-13, 2026. The project involves an investment exceeding 5 million euros and will utilize over 70 technicians and 30 pieces of heavy machinery.
Key works include replacing switches at the Alberese station with next-generation technology, upgrading signaling and electric traction systems, and performing extraordinary maintenance on the railway bridge over the Osa River.
These operations will cause significant disruptions to rail services. Circulation will be suspended on the Grosseto-Orbetello stretch, necessitating replacement bus services for regional and Intercity trains. Long-distance services, including Frecciabianca and Frecciarossa trains on the Rome-Genoa route, will be diverted via Florence Campo Marte, resulting in the cancellation of stops between Livorno and Civitavecchia. Frecciargento services will also face cancellations, with some impacts extending to surrounding weekdays. Travelers are advised to check updated schedules via Trenitalia.
