Italy rolls out tokenized solar power scheme and agrivoltaic plant to boost renewable energy

Enel and blockchain specialist Conio have launched the ebitts utility token, allowing Italian households to purchase digital tokens that represent a share of output from two Enel renewable sites – the Piani della Marina photovoltaic park in Viterbo and the Barile Venosa wind farm in Potenza. Token holders receive direct bill savings and can benefit from clean energy without owning a physical installation, a model aimed at urban residents who lack rooftop space.

The Società Elettrica di Favignana (SEA) is constructing a 993.73 kW agrivoltaic system on a 21,000 m² olive grove in Cala Grande, Favignana. The plant uses bifacial panels on a single‑axis tracking structure, coupled with a 900 kW lithium‑ion battery storage system, and is expected to cut emissions by about 20 %. The project integrates solar generation with local agriculture and connects to the island’s medium‑voltage grid, supporting the island’s “Zero Emissions” program.
