Italy sees over 11 million cyclists choosing bike travel for summer holidays
More than 11 million Italians are expected to use a bicycle during the upcoming summer vacation period, according to the Confturismo‑Confcommercio observatory. About 4.6 million will bring their own bike, an increase of roughly 600 000 on 2023, while 6.6 million plan to rent a bike locally, up by more than one million.
The surge highlights cyclotourism’s growing role in Italy’s tourism offer. President Manfred Pinzger praised Minister Mazzi’s plan to boost cycling infrastructure and services, especially in small towns, stating that the bicycle is now a “key, sustainable and authentic way to experience destinations” and urging continued investment in bike lanes, rental facilities and route promotion.
