Italy expands space and defense industrial sectors
Italy is strengthening its position in the global space economy, currently ranking seventh in active satellites and sixth in launches since 2019. The sector generates approximately eight billion euros in production and employs over 23,000 people.
To foster growth, the Beyond Exploration Expo (Bex) is being held in Rimini from September 23 to 25. Organized by the Italian Exhibition Group, the event serves as a European platform for space technology and industrial applications, facilitating dialogue between startups, research centers, and major companies like Leonardo Space and Axiom Space.
In the Lazio region, officials announced the creation of a new industrial district for space, defense, and security starting in November. This initiative includes a 55-million-euro call for technological supply chains to support both large enterprises and SMEs. Additionally, ENEA is promoting models for technology transfer to bridge the gap between scientific research and industrial production, particularly in nuclear and environmental technologies.
