Italy sprint canoeing advances in 2026 World Championships

The Italian sprint canoeing team has shown strong performance at the 2026 World Championships in Poznan, Poland, impacting their Olympic qualification standing for Los Angeles 2028. Currently, Italy is virtually qualified in two disciplines: the men’s C2 500 and the women’s K2 500, both holding fourth place in the Olympic rankings.

During the opening sessions in Poznan, several Italian crews advanced to the semifinals. In the Olympic categories, Gabriele Casadei secured a spot in the C1 1000 men’s semifinals with the third-fastest overall time. The men’s K4 500 crew, consisting of Francesco Lanciotti, Federico Zanutta, Nicolò Volo, and Giovanni Francesco Penato, also advanced to the semifinals. The women’s K4 500 team will compete in the semifinals to reach the final.

In non-Olympic categories, Andrea Domenico Di Liberto recorded the fastest overall time in the K1 200 men’s heats, while Nicolae Craciun and Elena Ricchiero also progressed to their respective semifinals.
