2026 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships
Overview
The 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships are being held at the Malta Regatta Course in Poznan, Poland, from August 26 to August 30. The event involves approximately 866 to 900 athletes from 77 nations competing for world titles and ranking points necessary for qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Notably, ranking points earned at this event carry a “1.5x multiplier” for Olympic qualification series.
Italy has demonstrated strong early performances, impacting their Olympic standing. The nation is currently considered virtually qualified in two disciplines: the men’s C2 500 and the women’s K2 500, both holding fourth place in the Olympic rankings. During opening sessions, Gabriele Casadei secured a spot in the men’s C1 1000 semifinals, while Andrea Domenico Di Liberto recorded the fastest overall time in the men’s K1 200 heats.
Spain secured its first two medals with silver finishes from Laia Pelachs in the K1 1,000m (4:14.76) and the women’s K4 500 team—consisting of Sara Ouzande, Lucía Val, Daniela García, and Bárbara Pardo (1:39.91). Other Spanish finalists include Pablo Crespo (C1 1,000m), Pablo Graña (C1 200m), Carlos Arévalo (K1 200m), and the men’s K4 500 crew.
In paracanoe, Araceli Menduiña advanced to the KL3 200m final, while Cuban athlete Yarisleidis Cirilo secured a place in the C1 200m final. Following the conclusion of the championships, Polish paracanoe athlete Katarzyna Sobczak finished fourth in the KL-3 200m event after a competitor's disqualification, and Monika Kukla reached her second career World Championship final.
