Italy storms cause two deaths and widespread flooding

Severe storms, including heavy rainfall, tornadoes, and flooding, have caused at least two deaths across Italy. In the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, a woman died after her vehicle was submerged in a flooded underpass in Latisana. A second fatality occurred in Tuscany, where an elderly woman was killed by flying glass after a tornado shattered her home windows.

The extreme weather caused significant disruption in major cities. In Rome, heavy rains led to fallen trees, flooded metro stations, and widespread traffic chaos, with emergency services responding to over 300 calls. Milan also experienced flooding, and in the Piedmont region, firefighters responded to approximately 70 calls in Asti to assist residents in flooded apartments and shops.

While the storms caused extensive damage to vehicles and public infrastructure, weather conditions are expected to improve gradually across the country following the midnight period.
