Italy tightens fire safety after Vasto warning and Alba Adriatica blaze

Mayor Francesco Menna of Vasto urged all private landowners to keep vegetation cleared, warning that failure could result in fines of up to €500 and possible criminal liability. He cited the August 8, 2019 fire in the Sant’Antonio Abate district that forced 40 families to evacuate, stressing the risk of similar incidents if overgrown terrain is left unattended.

In the early hours of a recent night, a fire broke out in a residential building on the SS16 in Alba Adriatica. Five occupants were evacuated, one person suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation, and a family dog was rescued. Firefighters from the Teramo command and nearby stations deployed twelve units, including pump trucks and an aerial ladder, to contain the blaze and prevent spread to adjacent structures. The incident is now under investigation and cleanup operations continue.
