Italy to auction new BTP Short Term bonds in August 2026
The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced the auction of the first tranche of a new BTP Short Term bond, scheduled for August 26, 2026. The issuance will have a maturity date of October 30, 2028, with a nominal amount ranging between a minimum of 2.5 billion euros and a maximum of 3 billion euros. Additionally, a supplementary auction for 900 million euros has been planned.
The bond offers a gross annual coupon of 3.00%, paid semi-annually on April 30 and October 30 of each year. Due to the timing of the issuance, the first coupon payment on October 30, 2026, will be a “short” coupon, calculated at a gross rate of 0.516393% based on the 63-day period from issuance.
Final settlement and the issuance of the securities are expected to take place on August 28, 2026. These short-term instruments are typically utilized by investors seeking lower price volatility compared to long-term bonds.
