Italy weather: Atlantic storm brings rain and cold before high pressure returns

An Atlantic disturbance is bringing unstable weather, increased winds, and falling temperatures across Italy. Starting Saturday, October 24, rainfall is expected to affect the Triveneto, central regions, and the Adriatic coast, including Abruzzo, Molise, and northern Puglia. Strong Mistral winds reaching up to 70 km/h are forecast for Sardinia, Sicily, and central-southern Tyrrhenian basins.

Cold air in the upper atmosphere will likely trigger snowfall in the central-eastern Alps and Aosta Valley, with snow levels dropping to approximately 1,400–1,500 meters. Temperatures are expected to decrease by 3–4°C, particularly in central and southern regions.

Weather conditions are projected to improve starting Tuesday, October 27, as a high-pressure system expands over the Mediterranean. This shift will bring sunny skies and rising daytime temperatures, potentially reaching 24°C on the major islands. However, clear nights will cause significant thermal excursions, with temperatures dropping below 10°C in many areas, particularly in northern plains and valleys.
