Italy to host national environmental cleanup with inmates and volunteers
On Saturday, October 24, a national environmental cleanup initiative will take place across 24 cities in ten Italian regions. The event involves inmates, individuals under external penal execution, and volunteers working together to combat pollution.
Promoted by Plastic Free Onlus and Seconda Chance APS, the initiative follows a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Penitentiary Administration of the Ministry of Justice. The goal is to promote social inclusion, responsibility, and environmental protection through volunteerism. The program aims to establish a replicable model for social reintegration.
Participating locations include various cities in Campania, Calabria, Lazio, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Puglia, and Sicily. Specific activities include cleaning commercial areas in Mestre, streets in Sermoneta, and coastal or land areas in Trieste and Palmi.
