Italy to host botanical exhibitions focused on ancient fruit varieties
Italy will host two significant botanical and agricultural events in 2026 focused on plant biodiversity and ancient fruit varieties.
In Rome, the Orto Botanico will host the 21st edition of ‘La Conserva della Neve’. The event, themed ‘I Frutti’ (The Fruits), will explore the botanical, nutritional, and symbolic dimensions of fruit. Participants include nurserymen, collectors, and scholars from across Italy. Featured exhibitors include Azienda Agricola Frutticoltura Orvieto, which will present 250 native fruit varieties, and Hortus Hesperidis, showcasing citrus and Mediterranean trees.
Additionally, the 31st edition of ‘I Frutti del Castello’ is scheduled for October 10–11, 2026, at the Castello di Paderna in Pontenure. This event serves as a major preserve for Italian plant biodiversity, featuring over 160 exhibitors. The exhibition will highlight forgotten varieties of apples, pears, quinces, and medlars that predate industrial agriculture, alongside seasonal flowers and artistic craftsmanship.
