Italy transport strike: USB union defies government order FAST-MOVING

The USB union has announced it will proceed with a 24-hour general strike on Friday, October 30, despite a ministerial order from Transport Minister Matteo Salvini to defer the action. The government issued the order following a finding by the Commission of Guarantee that the strike violated mandatory grace period regulations during the upcoming All Saints' Day holiday period.

The strike aims to protest the rising cost of living, stagnant wages, and increased military spending. While the ministerial order covers sectors including local public transport, trains, aviation, taxis, and maritime links, the USB union has stated it intends to defy the order and accept potential legal sanctions.

Major transport operators, including Trenitalia, Italo, and Trenord, have announced they will maintain regular service schedules in response to the government's directive. However, local transport services in cities like Rome and Bologna face potential disruptions as the union maintains its mobilization efforts.
