Italy and Albania face major transport disruptions
Italy faces significant transportation disruptions throughout September due to a series of planned strikes. A 24-hour national railway strike involving Trenitalia and Mercitalia Rail is scheduled for September 7 and 8. Additional regional strikes for RFI maintenance staff are expected on September 10 and 11. Aviation services will also see disruptions, including ground service and security strikes at airports such as Fiumicino, Malpensa, and Pisa, with a major national strike by air traffic control authority ENAV planned for September 30.
In Albania, public transport operators have announced a 20% to 30% reduction in their vehicle fleets starting September 1. This measure is a direct response to rising fuel costs and financial difficulties, as operators claim they can no longer afford to operate at full capacity without government compensation for fuel expenses. The reduction is expected to lead to decreased service frequency and increased passenger loads on remaining vehicles.
