Italy national rail and transport strike on July 23‑24 2026

A nationwide strike affecting the rail system and other transport sectors was announced for July 23‑24 2026. The CUB Trasporti and SGB unions called a 24‑hour walk‑out of the Gruppo FS, Trenitalia, Trenitalia‑Tper and Trenord staff from 21:00 GMT on 23 July until 20:59 GMT on 24 July. Long‑distance services such as Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca and Intercity are listed as guaranteed, while regional services are obliged to run a minimum “service‑guarantee” during the 06:00‑09:00 and 18:00‑21:00 windows. Passengers are advised to verify train schedules, expect possible cancellations or delays, and can claim refunds before the declared departure time for Intercity and Frecce, or by 24:00 the day before for regional trains.

The strike also encompasses other transport workers: a 24‑hour GNV Grandi Navi Veloci ferry strike on 22‑23 July, local public‑transport stoppages in the Marche region, Salerno and Verona, and a national public‑transport (urban buses, metros) shutdown involving the EAV group in Naples. Italo announced its own list of guaranteed services for the same period. Authorities have published the lists of guaranteed services and the procedures for ticket refunds or re‑booking.
