Italy updates disability pension payments and outlines early retirement limits for 2026‑2028
The Italian social security institute (INPS) has revised the civil disability pension for 2026. Recipients aged 18‑67 with total disability (100%) will receive €340.71 per month, subject to an annual income ceiling of €20,029.55. Partial disability (74‑99%) qualifies for the same monthly amount but with a lower income limit of €5,852.21. Benefits are paid for 13 months and automatically convert to a social allowance after the beneficiary turns 67.
Separately, INPS clarifies the rules for early retirement at age 64 for workers with a pure contributory record. Applicants must have at least 20 years of actual contributions and a gross pension exceeding 1.6 times the social allowance (over €1,600 per month based on the 2026 allowance of €546.24). From 2027 the qualifying age rises to 64 years + 1 month, and from 2028 to 64 years + 3 months, with the minimum pension threshold likely to increase as the social allowance grows.
