Italy updates Electronic Identity Card issuance procedures

Administrative updates regarding the issuance of Electronic Identity Cards (CIE) have been announced for Rome and Foligno.

In Rome, special open days are scheduled for the weekend of September 26 and 27. During this period, registry offices in Municipalities II, VIII, and XII will open on Saturday, September 26. Additionally, several information points and release centers, including those at Piazza delle Cinque Lune, Piazza Sonnino, Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, and Via Petroselli 52, will be active on both Saturday and Sunday. Appointments are mandatory and must be booked via the Ministry of the Interior’s Agenda CIE website.

In Foligno, new service organization rules for CIE issuance will take effect on October 1. Under the new schedule, the registry office will allow walk-in access on Mondays and Fridays during morning hours. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays will require appointments, though exceptions will be made for urgent cases such as document theft, imminent travel, or health emergencies. Data from the current year shows a 44.8% increase in CIE issuances compared to the same period in 2025.
