Italy updates healthcare tariffs for 600 medical services

Italy is implementing an update to national healthcare tariffs, affecting approximately 600 medical services and examinations. The revision covers 448 outpatient specialist services and 222 codes for custom prosthetic assistance. While the average tariff increase is 5.8%, roughly 80% of services will remain at their current price.

Specific examples of price adjustments include the first specialist visit, which rises from 25 to 26 euros, and the first cardiological visit with an electrocardiogram, increasing from 33.60 to 38 euros. Blood sampling costs will rise from 3.80 to 4.30 euros. For services subject to a national cap, the copayment (ticket) cannot exceed 36.15 euros per prescription.

The measure is expected to cost the National Health Service an additional 210.7 million euros annually, with 183.1 million euros allocated to specialist care and 27.6 million euros to prosthetics. In regions like Lazio, these updates follow a period of legal challenges and administrative delays regarding previous ministerial decrees. To ensure continuity, the national budget has allocated specific funds to finance these updated maximum tariffs for 2026 and beyond.
