Overview

They report a critical gap where innovative drugs, such as the antibody-drug conjugate mirvetuximab soravtansine for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, are reimbursed, but the required predictive diagnostic tests (FRα/FOLR1) are not consistently available or reimbursed across all regions. In Venice, discussions have further highlighted therapeutic delays between drug authorization and actual patient availability.

Regional disparities remain a challenge. While Umbria has seen oncology surgical timelines improve, other areas face shortages. To address social dimensions of recovery, the ‘Workon’ project—presented to the Senate by Fondazione Poliambulanza and Komen Italia—aims to support the professional reintegration of women recovering from breast cancer. Additionally, regional prevention efforts include the LILT ‘Nastro Rosa’ campaign, mobile screening units in Avellino, and the ‘Villaggio della Salute’ in Monza.
