Italy updates tax credit deadlines and eligibility for business investments
Italian authorities have issued updates regarding tax credit procedures for business investments. The Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has extended the deadline for submitting completion communications for Transizione 4.0 investments. For material capital goods completed by June 30, 2026, the deadline to submit communications has been moved from July 31 to September 15, 2026.
This extension also applies to companies that previously initiated the procedure but were excluded due to exhausted resources. As resources become available through withdrawals or underutilization, they will be reassigned chronologically. Companies notified of new availability by the GSE can finalize their procedures by September 15, even for investments completed by late 2025.
Separately, the Agenzia delle Entrate clarified rules for the ZES Unica tax credit. In response 169, the agency confirmed that investments made via leasing in early 2026 are eligible, even if the contract and delivery of goods occurred before the formal preventive communication. The agency emphasized that the preventive communication is a procedural requirement and does not affect the incentive's validity, provided the project began after the measure's implementation.
