Google and Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale launch AI training fund

Google and the Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale have launched a training initiative worth over 1.3 million euros to support professionals in the creative industries. Announced at the 2026 Venice Biennale Cinema, the project aims to provide artificial intelligence training to approximately 2,500 workers in the film, audiovisual, music, and information sectors to prevent digital exclusion.

The funding includes a 1 million dollar contribution from Google.org and up to 500,000 euros from the Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale. This initiative is part of the ‘AI Works for Italy’ project, designed to bridge the digital skills gap. Training programs, which include AI literacy and practical workshops, are expected to begin in 2027 following a call for partnerships in 2026.

A strategic committee involving the Ministry of Culture, SIAE, ANICA, and other industry organizations will oversee the project. The initiative follows research suggesting that generative AI could significantly boost productivity and create up to 44,000 new jobs within the Italian creative sector.
