Italy waste tax and social bonuses for 2026
In 2026, Italian households can access various social bonuses based on their Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator (ISEE). A notable benefit is a 25% discount on the waste tax (Tari), which is applied automatically without a specific application. This discount is granted to households that submitted a DSU in 2025 with an ISEE below €9,530, or below €20,000 for families with at least four dependent children.
For the waste tax, the reduction is applied to the year following the DSU submission. Starting January 1, 2026, the standard threshold for social bonuses will rise to €9,796. To maintain eligibility, citizens must submit a new DSU annually.
Beyond waste tax relief, an ISEE below €35,000 serves as a primary filter for various state aids, including the Universal Single Allowance (Assegno unico universale) and nursery school bonuses. While an ISEE under this threshold increases the likelihood of receiving support for education, culture, and health, eligibility rules, deadlines, and specific thresholds vary by measure and region.
