Italy weather: unseasonable heat to end with Atlantic storm next week

Italy is experiencing unseasonably warm weather due to a persistent subtropical anticyclone. Temperatures in early October are remaining significantly above seasonal averages, with some cities reaching up to 30°C. The Mediterranean Sea is also notably warm, with surface temperatures in the central Tyrrhenian Sea reaching approximately 26°C, about 4°C above the seasonal norm.

This period of stability and heat is expected to last through Tuesday, October 6. However, a significant meteorological shift is forecasted for the middle of the week. An Atlantic perturbation is expected to move in between Wednesday, October 7, and Thursday, October 8, forcing the anticyclone to retreat. This transition is predicted to bring increased cloud cover, instability, and rainfall, particularly affecting Northern and Central Italy. The arrival of fresher air masses is also expected to cause a temperature drop of approximately 3-4°C within a short period.
