Italy wins gold in Team Relay at MTB World Championships

Italy won the gold medal in the Mixed Team Relay at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole, marking their first title in this discipline in 13 years. The winning team consisted of Juri Zanotti, Paolo Costa, Martina Berta, Giorgia Pellizotti, Valentina Corvi, and Fabio Bassignana, finishing with a time of 1:08:06.

Despite an aggressive early strategy from Austria that saw them take a significant lead, the Italian team staged a comeback. A decisive performance by Under-23 rider Valentina Corvi in the fifth lap regained the lead for Italy, allowing Fabio Bassignana to defend the position in the final leg. Switzerland took the silver medal, finishing 51 seconds behind, while the United States secured the bronze.

The victory was dedicated to Chiara Teocchi, an Italian athlete recovering from a serious accident in La Thuile. The team celebrated the win in front of a home crowd, marking a successful opening day for the championships.
