Italy women's volleyball team secures fifth VNL win, defeats Serbia in Manila
Defending champion Italy’s women’s volleyball team continued its unbeaten run in the Volleyball Nations League by beating the Czech Republic 3‑0 (25‑18, 25‑21, 25‑22) in Pasig City and then overcoming a two‑set deficit to defeat Serbia 3‑2 (25‑14, 25‑15, 21‑25, 21‑25, 15‑12). Josephine Obossa made a strong debut, contributing 18 points, while Sarah Luisa Fahr added 17 points and Eleonora Fersino posted a 91 % reception efficiency. Coach Julio Velasco praised the squad’s mental resilience, noting the win “helps the ranking and morale” and urging further improvements, especially in reception.
With five victories out of six matches, Italy sits second in the overall VNL standings with 15 points, behind unbeaten Brazil (16 points). The team now prepares for upcoming matches against the United States and Japan, aiming to secure a place in the Final Eight.
