Italy women's volleyball beats Serbia and Turkey at Genoa AIA Cup ahead of Nations League
Italy’s women’s national volleyball team opened the AIA Aequilibrium Cup Women Elite in Genoa with a 3‑2 victory over Serbia (25‑23, 22‑25, 22‑25, 25‑20, 15‑12). The win, secured after a fourth‑set comeback, was highlighted by debutant Josephine Obossa and a strong performance from Omoruyi.
Two days later Italy defeated Turkey 3‑1 (25‑23, 20‑25, 25‑13, 25‑17) in front of a sold‑out crowd of 3,600 at the Palasport. Coach Julio Velasco praised middle‑blocker Ekaterina Antropova, saying, “Ha fatto molto bene, soprattutto considerando che era la prima volta da schiacciatrice.” The tournament also saw Poland beat Serbia 3‑0 (25‑17, 25‑18, 25‑18) and a close five‑set win for Turkey over Poland.
The four‑team quad serves as the final preparatory test before the start of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League, with Italy scheduled to face Poland on the tournament’s last evening.
