Italy's A14 Highway Reopens After Heavy Truck Crash Causes 5‑km Queue

A heavy truck overturned on the A14 Bologna‑Taranto highway near Pedaso (km 280‑298) on the evening of 31 July 2026. The accident blocked the carriageway, triggering a five‑kilometre traffic jam between Pedaso and Grottammare and restricting traffic to a single lane. Emergency responders—including the highway police, fire brigade, medical teams, and staff from Autostrade per l’Italia—worked through the night to clear the overturned vehicle and assist the conscious driver, who was evacuated by helicopter to Torrette Hospital for examination.

By early morning on 1 August, the road was fully reopened, all lanes were back in service and no further queues were reported. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes via the SS 16 Adriatica and to exit at Pedaso or Porto Sant'Elpidio to avoid residual congestion. The incident caused significant delays, with travel times on the affected stretch rising to 37 minutes—about a 19‑minute delay compared with normal conditions—but resulted in no additional vehicle involvement or fatalities.
