Heavy truck crashes on Italian highways

In July 2026 Italy experienced two separate heavy‑truck accidents that disrupted major highway traffic.

On 19 July a northbound heavy truck on the A5 Turin‑Aosta route collided with two construction vehicles parked in the emergency lane near Ivrea and Quincinetto. The crash damaged the road‑work equipment, caused minor injuries to a construction worker, and briefly halted traffic toward Aosta while police and emergency services cleared the scene.

Ten days later, on 31 July, a heavy truck overturned on the A14 Bologna‑Taranto highway near Pedaso, blocking the carriageway and creating a five‑kilometre queue. Emergency responders cleared the overturned vehicle overnight, and the road was fully reopened by early 1 August, with drivers rerouted via the SS 16 Adriatica. No fatalities were reported, and the incident primarily caused significant delays.

Both events illustrate recurring safety challenges involving heavy‑truck operations on Italy’s motorways, prompting swift emergency interventions and traffic‑management measures to restore flow.
