Italian Carabinieri mark 212th anniversary in Reggio Calabria

The 212th anniversary of the Carabinieri’s foundation was celebrated on 22 May at the Arena dello Stretto in Reggio Calabria. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, Deputy Defence Under‑Secretary Isabella Rauti, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Luciano Portulano, Carabinieri General Salvatore Luongo, the mayor Francesco Cannizzaro, Prefect Clara Vaccaro and several other ministers and civil authorities.

Cadets of the 144th course took their oath and received their insignia. Colonel Enrico Pigozzo, commander of the Carabinieri School in Reggio Calabria, delivered a speech recalling the force’s historic role, its ethical foundations and its commitment to public safety.

The event highlighted the Carabinieri’s long‑standing service to the Italian State and underscored the moral and professional values that guide the force.
