Elly Schlein and allies announce July rallies for progressive coalition

Elly Schlein, Giuseppe Conte, Nicola Fratoianni and Angelo Bonelli posted a selfie from the Costanza Hosteria in Rome, captioned “Al lavoro. Per cambiare l’Italia. Segnatevi queste date: 8 e 15 luglio.” The image was used to signal a joint effort by the Democratic Party (PD), the Five Star Movement (M5S) and the Green‑Ecologist Party (AVS) to build a broad “campo largo” progressive alliance.

The four leaders announced two public meetings, one in a northern city and one in the south, on 8 July and 15 July, to present the coalition’s programme. Schlein said the alliance is already wider than the photo suggests and promised that the programme will be drafted together starting in September, adding “Mai messo veti.” The announcement sparked discussion about the absence of centrist figures such as Matteo Renzi, with Schlein stating that Renzi has been informed and that the alliance could later include Italy Viva and other centrist groups.

The initiative aims to consolidate a centre‑left front that currently commands around 41‑42 % of voter intention ahead of next year’s elections, seeking to move from internal talks to a public platform.
