Italian centre‑left coalition kicks off Naples rally, pledges unity

On 8 July the “tridente” PD‑M5S‑AVS gathered at Piazza del Gesù in Naples. Leaders Elly Schlein (PD), Giuseppe Conte (M5S), Angelo Bonelli (AVS) and Nicola Fratoianni (SI) addressed the crowd under the slogan “Al lavoro per cambiare l’Italia”. The event included a traditional “foto di famiglia” and the attendance of regional president Roberto Fico and mayor Gaetano Manfredi.

The rally marked the start of a long campaign ahead of the 2027 elections and was meant to show the coalition’s unity against the centre‑right government of Giorgia Meloni. Protesters from Potere al Popolo briefly disrupted the live stream; negotiations by Bonelli and Fratoianni restored order. Speakers highlighted shared policy goals such as a minimum wage, parental leave, opposition to a 5 % of GDP defence spend and a constitutional‑based programme. They also noted unresolved issues around the new electoral law and the inclusion of a “fourth leg” reformist force, with Plus Europe urging changes to signature‑collection rules.
