Italy's center‑right advances out‑of‑town voter amendment
The governing centre‑right coalition in Italy has presented a joint amendment to the electoral law that would allow voters who are temporarily domiciled away from their municipality of residence – such as students, workers and people receiving medical treatment – to cast their votes in the commune where they live, for parliamentary elections, European elections and referendums. The proposal, signed by youth leaders of Fratelli d'Italia (Fabio Roscani), Lega (Luca Toccalini), Forza Italia (Simone Leoni) and Noi Moderati (Maria Chiara Fazio), requires registration by 31 December and placement on ordinary polling sections in the host municipality. The amendment is positioned as a concrete step by the centre‑right to fulfil a long‑standing demand and to challenge the opposition, while broader debates continue over other electoral reforms such as the introduction of preferential votes.
