Italy's CISL calls for health staffing hires in Sardinia, protests hiring block in Agrigento

The CISL trade union in Sardinia welcomed the regional government's announcement of an extraordinary hiring plan for 1,000 nurses and 500 doctors. Union leaders said the measure would reduce workload pressure, improve service efficiency and help retain medical professionals. They urged rapid implementation of recruitment procedures and called for expanded training programmes in collaboration with universities to meet long‑term staffing needs.

In Agrigento, the CISL FP branch criticised a halt to hiring in the local health system, describing the situation as a collapse. The union highlighted severe staff shortages, such as only three operating‑room assistants covering night shifts in the Sciacca hospital, and warned that the lack of personnel endangers both worker wellbeing and patient care. CISL FP demanded an urgent response from local authorities and threatened further mobilisations if the hiring impasse is not resolved.
