Italy's Civil Protection launches youth training camps for 2026

The Italian Department of Civil Protection is running the sixteenth edition of the “Anch’io sono la Protezione Civile 2026” school camps for young people. In Maschito, Prefect Michele Campanaro visited the camp, which hosted thirty students aged 10 to 13 and offered a week of operational simulations, first‑aid training, tent‑setting, emergency‑plan studies and drone demonstrations. The Prefect praised the participants, saying, “Today I found curious, engaged youngsters eager to understand how the civil protection system works and how each of us can contribute to safety.”

A parallel camp in Grotte Santo Stefano, organized by the local Misericordia, hosted 35 youths aged 9 to 14 from 12 to 17 July. The program covered fire, hydro‑geological and seismic risk awareness, correct emergency behaviour, and teamwork, with instruction from the fire brigade, Carabinieri, local police, the army’s aviation training centre and other authorities. Both camps aim to spread a culture of prevention, civic responsibility and community safety among Italy’s next generation.
